SLOTH IN THE VALE DAS TAQUARAS

Last April a huge sloth appeared on the ground of our garden, slowly moving towards a nearby wood. On the ground it was very vulnerable but once on the trees it soon disappeared by the branches and trunk, camouflaged. This sloth, with long black hair down its neck, is quite rare.

Knowing Lila Ferrez

Liliane Ferrez known as Lila Ferrez, went to the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, during 3 years, to study birds more closely. In that time there were very few books with drawing. The bird's skins were the only way to identify exactly which bird was which.

She then went in an expedition to the interior of Bahia, organized by the Museum, which Prof. Dante Teixeira was the expedition lider.

Luis Claudio Marigo and Lila Ferrez organyzed the COA (Bird Wacthes Club of Rio de Janeiro) . Luis as the director and Lila as the secretary.

She became the president of Brazilian Bird Club after Pedro Scherer Neto Phd.

She wrote a book "Bird Watching in the Estate of Rio de Janeiro " published in 1994".

Today, she is the owner of Vale das Taquaras Lodge, especialized in birding wacthing, situated in Rio Bonito de Cima -Nova Friburgo RJ.
